Your skin goes through a host of changes over the course of your lifetime. With each of those changes, you’ll have a variety of new regimens that may be appropriate for your skin care needs. Healthy and glowing skin is something you should consider from a young age.
The sooner in life you begin to care for your skin, the easier it will be to maintain healthy skin as you age. One of the best ways to avoid skin damage is to avoid sun exposure. As tempting as it is to sport a tan each summer, you damage your skin each time you stretch out under the sun to tan. Avoid the sun at peak times of the day, wearing sunscreen and wearing wide-brimmed hats can mean you’ll have less work to undo that damage as you age.
Other ways to give yourself a head start before you reach your 30s, 40s and 50s include using skin-clearing products to help fight acne. With young, clear skin in your youth, try to fight the urge to wear a lot of make-up. Let your natural skin speak for itself so you can maintain clear pores. If you do wear make-up, be sure to wash your face thoroughly each night before you go to bed or before you exercise.
Skin care in your 30s, 40s and 50s becomes more challenging as your skin begins to lose elasticity and your body loses moisture.
- The work begins in your 30s. No matter how well you’ve taken care of your skin leading up to your 30s, the passage of time will begin to make itself known through your skin. You’ll start to notice the loss of elasticity as well as the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At this point, it may be a good time to consider the use of Botox if that treatment interests you. By adding Botox treatments to your skin care routine, you may be able to stave off the deepening of forming wrinkles. Other options are facial peels or buying skin care products that contain lactic or glycolic acid.
- Sleep more and moisturize in your 40s. Allow your body to repair itself through a good night’s sleep each night. Commit to giving your body and its processes, which include repairing skin cells, the rest it needs. It’s a time when you may begin to consider other cosmetic procedures to help you look younger such as eye lift or a neck lift.
- Take more action in your 50s. At this point you may begin to notice dullness in your skin, along with more wrinkles, hollowing around the eyes and sagging around the neck area. You may consider a facelift at this point to help you feel more confident in your daily skin care regimen.
